Obituary of Maurice F. Lawyer
Maurice F. "Red" Lawyer, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, January 8, 2010 in his home.
Born: January 29, 1923 in Washington, NJ he was a son of the late Maurice Edward and Jennie Ervin Lawyer.
Personal: Red was a resident of Hackettstown for 25 years, and had previously lived in Washington, NJ where he was the owner/operator of Red's Body Shop, until retiring in 1986. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Red was the New Jersey state heavyweight wrestling champion in 1940 and was in the finals in 1941 and '42. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with those he loved.
Memberships: He was a member of the Oxford Fire Department, a life member of the American Legion Post of Washington, a member of several Oxford and Mansfield gun clubs, and a former member of the Oxford Lions Club.
Survivors: He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 66 years, Mary Homko Lawyer; a son, Thomas and wife Elizabeth of Belvidere; two daughters, Lorraine Rexrode of Sanford, FL and Annette Reynolds and husband Jimmie of Gonic, NH; six grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Darlene, Steven, Carol and Gregory, and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son David in 1969; his son Steven in 1975; and his daughter Marsha Gann in 2008.
Services: Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 in Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ with Fr. David Percola officiating. Call Monday 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Private interment will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Oxford. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ 07882.
