Obituary of James Gowdy
James Gowdy, 72, of Port Murray, NJ, died on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at Hackettstown Hospital.
Born: On March 14, 1933 in New York City, he was a son of the late James and Charity Crawford Gowdy.
Personal: A longtime resident of Port Murray, NJ, he also at one time lived in Somerset and Middletown, NJ. He was employed as an engineer at Lockheed in Plainfield, NJ for 30 years. Several of his designs were patented by the company. He attended New York City College. James served in the Air Force as a navigator during the Korean Conflict. He was very talented in woodworking, and he enjoyed coin collecting. James was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors: He leaves to mourn a wife, Betty Martha; two daughters, Janine Karabas and her husband, Anthony of High Bridge, Valerie Gowdy Powell and her husband, Duane of Plainfield; a step-daughter, Joy Edwards Black of Newark; two sisters, Bettina Pearce and her husband, Karl of Somerset, Dr. Ann Carpenter of Suffern, NY; four grandchildren, Kameron Jeter, Devin and Marcus Powell, Jeremiah Black; a sister-in-law, Joan Moses; his mother-in-law, Lillie Tucker; a dear friend and neighbor, Howard Sargent; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services: Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Warren Hills/Ford Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Brigadier General William C.
