Obituary of Alexander Sawicki

Alexander Sawicki, 86, of Washington Township, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2011 at Warren Hospital. Born: April 20, 1924 in Staten Island, NY, he was a son of the late Alexander and Helen Sawicki. Personal: He was a resident of Washington Township for 11 years, he previously resided in South Plainfield, NJ. Alex worked as an Industrial Electrician at L.A Dreyfus in Edison, NJ for 45 years, retiring in 1986. Alex served proudly in the Army during World War II. Alex enjoyed golf, was a league bowler for many years, he was proud of his beautiful roses and keeping a lush green lawn, he had a vegetable garden and helped running his Mom and Pop's grocery store when he was a child on Staten Island. He liked woodworking, creating and building, had fond memories of his years in the service. He loved a good western movie and the great outdoors. He loved life. His family was very dear to him. He was of the Catholic faith. Survivors: his loving wife of 65 years, Frances; two daughters, Janice Dmytriw and her husband Martin of Washington Township, Brenda Syzonenko and her husband Paul of Bangor, PA; two sons, Allan Sawicki and his wife Linda of VA, Alexander Robert Sawicki and his wife Lori of Pittstown, NJ; five grandsons, Allan, Christopher, Peter, Jason and John. He was predeceased by four brothers, Charles and John Sawicki; and Michael and Stephen died in childhood. Services: Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2011 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. Services will be Saturday, February 12, 2011 , 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Petro Zvarych officiating, at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 335 US Highway 46, Great Meadows, NJ 07838. Burial in the Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, NJ. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wills Eye Surgery Center, 8400 Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19152. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882.
