Obituary of Leonard M. Black

Leonard "Blacky" Black, 81, of Oxford passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2011. Born: March 13, 1929 in Washington, he was a son of the late Richard and Louisa Black. Personal: A lifelong resident of Warren County, Blacky was a union mason working for Local 569 of Pattenburg for over 50 years. He graduated from Washington High School class of 1947. He served in the Army National Guard during peace time. Blacky loved fishing and traveling, especially their trips to Hawaii and Niagara Falls and enjoyed gambling, often taking trips to Atlantic City. Survivors: His loving wife of 21 years, Shirley "Heft"; two daughters: Darlene Kiley and her husband James of Hampton, and Lisa Pierson and her husband Kenneth of Stockertown; a son: Leonard Black Jr. and his wife Kathy of Tamaqua; four step-daughters: Cherrie Levy and her husband David of Hampton, Judy Burd and Debra Davenport both of Phillipsburg, Lanell Glorioso and her husband Nick of Oxford; two step-sons: William Deemer and his wife Diane of Easton, and Howard Deemer and his wife Lisa of Belvidere; 29 grandchildren; and 23 great- grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers: George, William, Charles and Richard; and sister Edna Julian. Services: Visitation on Wednesday, February 9 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor James Scovell officiating.
