Obituary of Elizabeth C Knox
Elizabeth "Betty" C. Knox, passed away peacefully at the age of 104 on January 15th, 2025 at her daughter's home in Ottsville, PA. Former resident of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, Betty was born in Philadelphia on January 2nd, 1921 to the late Calvin and Rose (Trainor) Blose. She was the eldest of six daughters and grew up in West New York. Her late husband, William Preston Knox, Sr., preceded her in death in 1995. Together since they were young, Bill called her "ladybug." They would sail Lake Hopatcong and Lake George, NY, together on his boat he named "The Ladybug" after her. They passed their love of sailing on to their children and grandchildren who have many wonderful memories of sailing days on the lakes they loved.
Betty attended business school after high school, learning bookkeeping. She began her career working at a publishing company and worked as a payroll administrator for Jefferson Township School District over the years. She also did payroll for the New Jersey shipyard dock workers during the second world war. She was the president of the Women's Club in Dumont and an avid painter of Folk Art, enjoying classes in Lancaster, PA. She was an avid sports fan and loved the New York sports teams, especially the Yankees and Jets, and enjoyed watching both Alabama and Army college football. In her retirement she loved to travel and visited most of the United States as well as a number of countries including Germany, Ireland, Scotland, and Japan. Betty was a lifelong dog lover and rarely didn't have a loving pooch by her side.
She cherished time spent with family, hosting large holiday gatherings and cooking for the entire family. Her grandchildren fondly remember the summers and weekends spent with her at her home and the yacht club in Lake Hopatcong. She also enjoyed camping in Lake George, taking her grandchildren to Disney World, and traveling in her RV.
She is survived by her two youngest sisters Florence Andrycich of Ridgewood, NJ and Hazel Lappert of Stuart, FL. She is also survived by her four children: Carroll Humanick, of Dallas, PA, William P. Knox Jr. of Sparta, NJ, Sharon Knox Miller of Ottsville, PA, and Elizabeth Bankey of Fredericksburg, VA. She was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake in Jefferson Township, NJ, and Saint Patrick Church in Fredericksburg, VA.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday morning, January 22, from 9:30-10:30 am at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave, Washington, NJ, 07882. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately after, starting at 11:00 am at St. Peter and Paul's Church, 360 US-46, Great Meadows, NJ, 07838.
