Obituary of Cecilio Castillo

Cecilio Castillo, 94, of Hampton, NJ and previously of Puerto Rico and Cuba passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023 at Hunterdon Care Center, Flemington, NJ. Cecilio was born on December 7, 1928 in El Perico, Matanzas, Cuba to the late Cecilio Castillo, Sr and Agustina Perez. After emigrating from Cuba in 1955, he worked as a contractor for many years before retiring in 1993. Cecilio then moved to Utuado, Puerto Rico, where he and his wife Rosa built their own house and he farmed his own land. He would send his children in New Jersey shipments of homegrown tropical fruit every couple of months. He was known for his 'can-do' spirit and great compassion, not just for his family, but also for the feral cats and dogs that strayed onto his farm. While living in Puerto Rico for 40+ years, he was dearly loved and blessed by his step-children and many step-grandchildren. Cecilio is survived by his former wife Eralia Castillo Torres, his wife Rosa Cruz, and his children Alane Andrian and her husband Nicholas, Annette Hibbler and her husband Richard, and son Cecil Castillo and his wife Suzanne. He also leaves behind his 5 grandchildren and his cherished great-granddaughter, Arwen Creighton, as well as his step-children Jazmin Oquendo Cruz and Julio Oquendo Cruz and their respective families. All services have been made private at this time and under the direction of Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882.
