Obituary of Elizabeth L. Wieghorst
Elizabeth "Betty" L. Wieghorst, 99, of Washington (Franklin Township) NJ (formerly of Hampton NJ, Phillipsburg NJ and Bath PA) passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022 at the Lopatcong Care Center.
Elizabeth was born on September 25, 1922 in Allamuchy, NJ to the late Charles M. and Hazel M. "Leffever" McElroy. As a young girl she attended Port Colden Elementary School and loved to ride along on her father's milk delivery route. The family moved to Hampton and she graduated from Hampton High School class of 1940. Betty worked as a clerk/secretary for the military at the Duke Estate during World War II. She married her husband on October 21, 1945 just 17 days after his discharge from the US Army. She was a homemaker and loving mother to her daughter, Patti. Her loving husband William F. Wieghorst passed away in 1996 soon after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Elizabeth was a past member of the Hampton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was the Sunday school superintendent for the Hampton Methodist Church. She and her husband loved to travel and saw 49 of the 50 states as well as Aruba, England and Scotland.
Elizabeth is survived by a sister Pearl Eagan; son in-law Roy Gunderman; nieces and nephews, John Oakes and his wife Linda, Joan Duryea and her husband Alan, Charles Eagan and his wife Susan, Allison McElroy, and Aimee McElroy and her wife Kris. In addition to her husband Bill, Elizabeth is predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Gunderman in 1999; sisters, Beatrice Oakes and Rose Marie McElroy; brothers, Charles "Chick" McElroy and Arthur McElroy.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday May 28, 2022 from 11 AM – 12 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Elizabeth's life will be at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ.
