Obituary of Juliette K Turnbull

Juliette K. Turnbull, 84, of Washington Township, NJ passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side. Julie was born on May 20, 1937 in Mineola, NY to the late Phillip and Juliette "Underhill" Kelly. An only child, she was named after both of her parents. In fact, when she was a young her parents called her by her middle name, Phyliss, but when she went off to college, she began to use her first name, "Julie". She graduated from Hempstead High School, Class of 1954, and earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from Bucknell University in 1958. After graduating she began working in NYC for a top advertising agency. Close friends introduced her to her future husband, John Ashton Turnbull Jr., and they were married in December 1960 and shortly after began raising their three children in Flanders, New Jersey. During this time she was a member of the Flanders Fire Dept. Women's Auxiliary and she enjoyed neighborhood activities, bridge, going to NYC plays, jewelry parties, beach days, canning fruits together and many more. When the children were older, she returned to work, working for Mutual of Omaha for over 25 years. The family settled in Washington Township. Her beloved husband John passed away in 1999. Later that year she retired and she spent time traveling to Europe, Alaska, North Carolina, and at the Jersey shore. While at home, she spent time having monthly lunches with her local friend group, became a member and attended meetings of the Warren County Historical Society, enjoyed gardening and cheering on the Bucknell Bison Basketball team every single season. Julie would often sit on her front porch and enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and saying hello to her neighbors as they walked by. Above all, Julie was devoted to her family. She cherished time spent with them, especially her grandchildren. She leaves behind her children, Jennifer Sullivan and her husband Bill, John Turnbull III and his wife Sandy, Andy Turnbull and his wife Cheryl; her beloved grandchildren, Tim, Brad and Katie Sullivan, John, Michael and Matt Turnbull, Paul and Valeria Turnbull; her granddaughters-in-law, Brianna Turnbull (Michael) and Bergen Turnbull (Paul); and her most beloved cousin, who was more like a sister, Anne Tower Krauss and her husband Paul and their children. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday March 13, 2022 from 11 AM- 1 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ, 07882. A service of remembrance celebrating Julie's life will be held on Sunday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
