Obituary of William C Wallace
William C. Wallace, 79 of Washington Township, NJ passed away peacefully at the Brakeley Park Care Center in Phillipsburg, NJ on February 21, 2022. Bill was born on July 14, 1942 in Newark, NJ to the late George E. Wallace and Lillian (Caswell) Wallace. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Carol (Wittmann) Wallace and siblings Robert Wallace, Edward Wallace, Adrienne Stecky, James Wallace, George Wallace, Jane Amberg, Joyce Cleveland, and John Wallace.
He grew up in Newark, NJ and lived in Edison before moving to Washington in 1973. He attended Bloomfield Technical High School. Bill was employed at Twin County Grocers in Edison, NJ for nearly 30 years until his retirement. Bill was a member of Local Union 863 International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He met his beloved wife Carol at Dayton Street Grammar School and they were married on May 25, 1963. The strength of their love and commitment endured through 56 years of marriage until her passing in 2019. Their dedication to one another and their family continues to inspire all of those they knew and loved.
Bill was an avid saltwater fisherman and was always happiest on or near the ocean. He loved sharing time on his boat with friends, family, and first-mate, Carol. His hobbies included overhauling cars, tractors, and boats. He was an expert handyman who applied his skills to become a successful house flipper. He was an avid reader of the newspaper and was always eager to discuss and debate the latest news and current events. He enjoyed dining out, family vacations by the sea, and trips to the casino with his wife Carol. He was also a fan of boxing and NASCAR. Bill was especially proud of his Irish and Scottish heritage. A highlight of his life's travels was a trip to Ireland with Carol, sister Jane, and niece Kathy. Bill was a true story teller and possessed a sharp wit and engaging sense of humor. Family and friends will remember him always for the raucous laughter that filled the room as he told stories of his life's adventures….and misadventures.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Colleen Michalko and her husband Robert, Susan Ghilon and her husband Matthew, and his five grandchildren, Morgan, Chloe, and Ethan Michalko, and Ben and John Ghilon. He cherished his grandchildren and they adored their Pop-Pop. He always beamed with pride when speaking about his grandkids. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Prott and her husband Harry, and his sister-in-law Marilyn Wallace. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. Bill was the cornerstone of his family; a devoted father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He cherished his family and friends above all and would arrange memorable reunions and get-togethers. It was so important to him to keep his loved ones connected. Bill was a good-hearted man who was generous in countless ways. He showed up when it mattered, gave to those in need, and could always be relied upon to offer emotional support and lift the spirits of those he loved. We will miss him more than words can say.
