Dr. George A. Schultz Obituary Dr. George A. Schultz, 89 of Hampton New Jersey passed away at home on May 15, 2021. Born: Dr. George was born at Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ. Personal: Dr. George was a lifelong resident of Hampton in Hunterdon County. Dr. George was most proud of his gift of intellect and love of learning that led to obtaining a BA degree from the University of Chicago, MA from the University of Montana, and PHD in Zoology from Duke University. Dr. George spent his career at Jersey City State College (Now Jersey City University) as an Associate Professor teaching Biology, Marine Biology, and Ecology. He also taught briefly at The University of Montana in Bozeman, MT and State University of New York, Stony Brook, NY. Dr. George was an avid traveler, researcher, and engaged with many scientists to identify isopods and crustaceans. Dr. George published numerous articles and a few book guides on Marine Isopod Crustaceans. A highlight of Dr. George's career was having research privileges at the Museum of Natural History in New York and at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. Dr. George served in the Army during the Korean Conflict serving with the Medical Services Corps in Iceland from 1954-1956. Dr. George was an avid flower and vegetable gardener. Dr. George was a bird watching enthusiast and spent many hours in the Hunterdon County area enjoying this passion. Visitors to Dr. George's home would often find him reading a book, watching an educational documentary or listening to his collection of classical music. He demonstrated a quick wit and would often recite numerous facts on any given topic with the history of Hampton a specialty. Dr. George enjoyed attending a yearly reunion of Hampton High School alumna and friends. Dr. George earned a pilot's license and a master scuba diving designation that he enjoyed using during his many travels. He traveled the world enjoying meeting scientists at conferences where he presented his research, studying the cultures of the countries he visited and exploring the land. As a lifelong learner Dr. George enjoyed numerous trips to Oxford University sponsored by the alumnae group of The University of Chicago. While at Oxford he was engaged in research and study on Shakespeare, his life and writings. Dr. George's other research interests included researching and compiling a 300-page family history of the Schultz and Donaldson families dating back to the Civil War. Dr. George was also fascinated by the railroads as his family settled in Hampton when his father soon became employed by the Central Railroad of New Jersey and The Delaware, Lackawanna& Western Railroad traveling from Newark through Hampton to Scranton, PA. Survivors: George is survived by his sister-in-law Maude Schultz, nieces Helen Schuler, Patricia Schnorrbusch, Beverly Stoskus, Stacy Craig, Victoria Schultz, Marcia Schultz, Nona Schultz, Melissa Winzenreid, nephews David Hummer, James Craig, Brent Craig, Richard Schultz, Donald Schultz and many great nieces and nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews George was predeceased by his parents Elsie and Richard Schultz, a twin brother Richard and sisters Hazel Craig and her husband Floyd "Rusty" Craig and Gertrude Hummer and her husband Paul Clifford Hummer. He is also predeceased by his niece Kimberly Godfrey. Services will be private. George will be laid to rest with his parents in his mother's family plot at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ along relatives dating back to the Civil War.
