Obituary of Robert F. Yawger
Robert F. Yawger, 76, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on June 11, 1944 in Phillipsburg, NJ to the late Frederick and Erla Yawger. He graduated from Washington High School class of 1962. He earned his Mortuary Science degree from Mercer County Community College. Bob was employed as a Funeral Director for more than 45 years by DeVoe Funeral Services in Washington, NJ until his retirement in 2002. He was a master embalmer who would help other funeral homes throughout the Warren, Sussex and Hunterdon County area. In 2002 Bob and his wife Terri purchased the Hills Motor Court in Alexandria Bay, NY, which they owned and operated until 2010. After his retirement Bob and Terri lived in a few different towns but always considered Washington their home.
Bob was a past member of the Washington Borough Fire Department Steamer Company #1, the Firemen's Relief Association and the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen's Association. He was a Washington Redskins youth football coach for more than 25 years. He also coached for the Washington Y Wrestling club, Washington Street Hockey and enjoyed playing softball locally. He was a passionate fan of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Red Wings. He was also an avid Ford and NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was Alan Kulwicki. He enjoyed early rock and roll music and his favorite band was Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Terri; his children Renee and David Yawger, Louis Yawger, Ronald and Tracey Yawger, and Robert Yawger, Jr.; 11 grandchildren.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday September 11, 2020 from 1-3 & 6-8 PM and again on Saturday September 12, 2020 from 10-11 AM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Graveside services will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:30 AM at the Montana Mountain Cemetery. 22 Demeter Rd. Harmony NJ. 08865.
